School of Architecture
—“I would urge that the young architect experience at first hand the joy of making things”
—Paul Rudolph
—University project that challenges current architectural pedagogy in the form of a new school of architecture with a focus on ‘making’ and adaptive re-use.
The new school building makes use of an existing remnant of Glasgow’s industrial heritage which is proposed to be used as both a robust plinth housing workshops, exhibition spaces and artists studios, and as an intrisic part of the building’s energy strategy acting as thermal mass and a heat sink.
On top of the plinth are lightweight modular studio blocks which can be added or removed as needed, constructed from pre-fabricated structurally insulated panels.
