School of Architecture

I would urge that the young architect experience at first hand the joy of making things
—Paul Rudolph

University project that challenges current architectural pedagogy in the form of a new school of architecture with a focus on ‘making’ and adaptive re-use.

The new school building makes use of an existing remnant of Glasgow’s industrial heritage which is proposed to be used as both a robust plinth housing workshops, exhibition spaces and artists studios, and as an intrisic part of the building’s energy strategy acting as  thermal mass and a heat sink.

On top of the plinth are lightweight modular studio blocks which can be added or removed as needed, constructed from pre-fabricated structurally insulated panels.
